As the article says they both were "individuals who have been considered to have achieved a distinguished rank in service to the religion". Would be interesting to know more about their Nazi past and how their faith changed their political opinions...

I can not actually find the research by Stefan Schaal the user was referring to so I am skeptical that what they say is true, but it may be a German publication which I do not have access to.
