Raymond L. Hudson (b. 1942) is an American Bahá’í who pioneered to the Aleutian Islands in Canada.
Background[edit]
In his youth Hudson completed a bachelor's degree in philosophy.[1] He pioneered to Unalaska in the Aleutian Islands in 1964 and secured a job as an elementary school teacher. In the late 1960's he served in the U.S. military and was deployed to Vietnam.[2]
Hudson undertook extensive international travels in 1970 first going on pilgrimage to Haifa, then visiting Iran, then completing an international teaching tour visiting Norway, Switzerland, India, Vietnam, and Japan.[3] In September 1972 Hudson was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of Alaska in a by-election and served for a year. In 1974 he was appointed as an Auxiliary Board member for Alaska,[3] serving until at least 1980.[4]
In the early 1970's Hudson became director of the Iliuliuk Family and Health Services in Alaska and he was awarded the Willard Bowman Award for Human Rights by the Alaska Education Association in the 1970's.[5] He also made efforts to preserve Aleut culture by recording oral traditions and promoting basket weaving techniques and in 1990 he was given an award by the Governor of Alaska for his efforts.[6]
