Nguyễn Thức

In this Vietnamese name, the family name is Nguyễn, but is often simplified to Nguyen in English-language text. According to Vietnamese custom, this person should properly be referred to by the given name Thức.

Nguyễn Thức (d. February 14, 2019) was a member of the National Spiritual Assembly of Vietnam, who acted as its chairman for many years. First elected to the National Spiritual Assembly in 1977, Thức was part of the institution when it was disbanded following proscription of the Bahá'í Faith in Vietnam in early 1978. During the decades that followed, he played an important role in supporting the Bahá'ís who remained in the country. In 2007, the Vietnamese government eventually recognized the Faith as a religious community, and Thức was elected to the newly reformed National Spiritual Assembly the following year, in 2008. He remained a member of the Spiritual Assembly until his death in 2019.
