Mehraz Ehsani (b. 1942) is a Persian Bahá’í who served as a Continental Counselor in Africa.

Biography[edit]

Ehsani was born in 1942. He moved to England in the 1960's and completed a degree in Engineering at the University of South Wales in 1964 and then worked as an engineer for Taylor Woodrow Construction until 1966.[1]

In the late 1960's Ehsani moved to the United States and completed a Masters of Architecture at the University of California in 1970 then began lecturing on architecture at the University of California and working for architecture firms. In 1972 he relocated to Iran where he worked as an architect and became a member of the Iranian Institute of Architects and Institute of Civil Engineers in 1974.[1]

In 1975 Ehsani pioneered to Kenya where he began lecturing at the University of Nairobi. He was registered as an architect in Kenya in 1981 and became a member of the Architectural Association. He also served the Bahá’í community serving as a Delegate to the United Nations for the Bahá’í International Community at events held in Kenya in 1982 and 1985, co-authored Bahá’í inspired children's moral education books,[1] and in 1986 he was part of a delegation which presented The Promise of World Peace to the President of Kenya.[2]

In 1990 the Universal House of Justice appointed Ehsani as a Continental Counselor for Africa for a five year term and he was appointed for several additional terms completing his service in 2010.[3][4] He continues to be a prominent architect in Kenya and in 2014 he oversaw the construction of the Zana International which was at that time the most expensive private home built in Kenya,[5] and in 2016 he was granted an award for designing the best hotel in Africa at the 23rd Annual World Travel Awards.[6]
