Haleh Arbab

Haleh Arbab.

Dr. Haleh Arbab Correa is a Bahá’í who pioneered to South America where she assisted with Social & Economic Development efforts and served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Colombia. She later served as the Director of the Institute for Studies in Global Prosperity in Haifa.

Background[edit]

Arbab was born in Iran and her father Ruhi Arbab served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran.[1] She emigrated to the United States of America to further her education completing her undergraduate arts degree focusing on sociology at Bryn Mawr College, a Master's degree in communications at the University of Pennsylvania, and her Doctorate in education and development at the University of Massachusetts.[2]

In 1982 Arbab pioneered to Colombia where she began working for the Bahá’í inspired non-profit educational organization FUNDAEC and she also assisted in the early development of the Ruhi Institute materials. In 1988 she helped found the University Centro Universitario de Bienestar Rural in Colombia and worked as a lecturer and in 1995 she was appointed as the Rector of the University serving in the role until 2005.[2] At some point she married Gustavo Correa and they had two children, Bita and Hamed.[3]

In February, 2005, Arbab represented a Bahá’í inspired development organization at the United Nations World Summit for Social Development,[4] and in June, 2005, she was appointed as the Director of the Institute for Studies in Global Prosperity which was an organization founded by the Universal House of Justice. She moved to Haifa, Israel, to serve in the role,[2] serving until 2018.[5]
