Háḍí Raḥmání-Shírází (1914 - May 24, 2007) was a Bahá’í who served as a member of the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran, an Auxiliary Board member, and a Continental Counselor for Western Asia.

Background[edit]

Raḥmání was born in Iran in 1914. At some point he married Azarmidokht Maghzi,[1] and they pioneered to Afghanistan at the suggestion of Shoghi Effendi for a time.[2]

He settled in Tehran after returning from Afghanistan and when Shoghi Effendi appointed the first living Hands of the Cause of God in 1951 Raḥmání was made the secretary of the Institution in Iran. As he did not travel outside of Tehran he was able to serve as a contact point to facilitate communications between the Hands of the Cause in Iran and he also served as an intermediary between Shu'á'u'lláh ‘Alá'í and the Auxiliary Board members of Iran after the Auxiliary Boards were established in 1954.[3]

In November 1957 Raḥmání attended the funeral of Shoghi Effendi in London, England, and after the funeral he accompanied Shu'á'u'lláh ‘Alá'í to Haifa.[4] As of 1958 he had been appointed as an Auxiliary Board member for Asia,[5] and he also served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nawnahálán Company, a Bahá’í trust fund.[6]

As of 1963 he had been elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran and he visited Haifa again to attend the First International Convention and cast a vote in the establishment of the Universal House of Justice.[7] In 1968 the Universal House of Justice appointed Raḥmání as an inaugural Continental Counselor for Western Asia for an indefinite term and he was also appointed as the Trustee of the Continental Fund.[8] As Counsellor he remained resident in Tehran rather than traveling extensively unlike most Counselors,[9] although in 1971 he did represent the Universal House of Justice at the formation of the National Spiritual Assembly of Afghanistan.[10]

In 1980 the Universal House of Justice merged the Continental Boards for Asia into a single body and introduced five year terms and Raḥmání was not reappointed.[11] He departed Asia and moved to the United Kingdom in the early 1980's,[12] and he served as a Deputy for Huqúqu'lláh for the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom up until the early 2000's.[13]

He passed away in 2007 and is buried in New Southgate Cemetery in London.[14]
