History[edit]

The Continental Board of Central America was formed along with ten other Boards in 1968. It was established by the Universal House of Justice so that the functions that the Hands of the Cause performed could continue to be carried out despite the Bahá'í community being unable to appoint additional Hands.[1]

The Board met for the first time with Hand of the Cause Ugo Giachery for eight days in Panama City from July 19 to July 27, 1968,[2] and the first Regional Conference held under its auspices took place in San Salvador, El Salvador, from June 20 to June 22, 1969.[3] In late January and early February, 1970, the Board visited Nicaragua to meet with the National Spiritual Assembly and conduct a teaching conference.[4]

In 1980 the Continental Boards of North, South, and Central America were merged to form the Continental Board for the Americas.[5]
