Paul Lucas is a Bahá'í who pioneered to Mexico and served as an Auxiliary Board member and Counsellor for Central America.
Background[edit]
Lucas pioneered to Mexico in 1969[1] and by 1972 he was serving as an Auxiliary Board member in Mexico and spoke at the 1972 International Bahá'í Conference in Panama at which the Panama House of Worship was dedicated.[2][3] He participated in the first International Youth Conference of Mexico in 1973, answering questions from the youth between talks with Carmen de Burafato.[4]
In 1973 Lucas was appointed to the Continental Board of Counsellors for Central America along with Rowland Estall by the Universal House of Justice.[5] In late 1973 he attended the first Bahá'í School in Puerto Rico held between December 24th and 30th.[6] In 1974 the National Spiritual Assembly of Mexico was invited to participate in a series of lectures on attitudes towards religion by the Center for Ecumenical Studies and the University Parish and the Assembly requested that Lucas and Carmen de Burafato represent the Faith, they gave a lecture and gave a televised interview.[7] In December 1975 and January 1976 he visited Dominica,[8] and in May 1976 he and the other members of the Continental Board for Central America held a deepening institute, with Lucas teaching a class on studying the Writings.[9]
In 1980 several Continental Boards were merged to form one Board for each Continent, and Lucas was not appointed to the new Continental Board for the Americas. The Universal House of Justice wrote the following regarding Counsellors who were not reappointed in 1980:
"A number of friends who have rendered highly valued services as Counsellors are not being reappointed for the coming term, and we wish to express here our profound gratitude for the devoted labours they have rendered and are rendering in the path of the Cause."[10]
As of 1985 Lucas was serving on the National Spiritual Assembly of Mexico as chairman,[11] and by 1986 he was the secretary of the body.[12]
