Citadel of Faith

Citadel of Faith: Messages to America 1947-1957 is a compilation of letters written by Shoghi Effendi, the Guardian of the Bahá'í Faith, to the National Spiritual Assembly of the United States of America from 1947 to 1957. The compilation was first published by the Bahá’í Publishing Trust of the United States in 1965 with a preface written by Paul Haney.
The compilation includes letters regarding administrative matters, Convention messages, tributes to Bahá’ís who had passed, and other subjects. It serves as a sequel to the compilation Messages to America published in 1947,[1] and includes the notable messages The Advent of Divine Justice and The Challenging Requirements of the Present Hour.[2] Much of the work towards compiling the messages, which numbered over eighty, was performed by Robert and Sue Meinhard, and the index was prepared by Marian Lippitt.
The first edition was bound in Holliston sailcloth and had a jacket including art of the Bahá’í temples by Harlan Scheffler.[3] It was reprinted in 1970.[4] In 1980 a second edition was published by the Bahá'í Publishing Trust.[5] In the 1970's Beatrice Ashton compiled a subject index of Citadel of Faith and Messages to America for the Universal House of Justice.[6]
