Background[edit]
Tessema was serving as assistant secretary of the National Spiritual Assembly of North East Africa as of 1966,[1][2] and by 1972 he was the full secretary of the Assembly.[3]
As of 1980 Tessema had been appointed as an Auxiliary Board member,[4] and that year he was part of a delegation representing the Ethiopian Bahá’í community which presented Bahá’í educational materials to the Ethiopian government and representatives of the United Nations.[5][6]
In 2000 the Universal House of Justice appointed Tessema to the Continental Board of Counsellors for Africa for a five year term.[7]
