- "Year without a summer": The April 1815 eruption of Mount Tambora in Indonesia causes a volcanic winter characterized by a colder climate and reduced sunlight, leading to widespread crop failures, famine and disease.[1]

- Fu'ád Páshá, grand vizier and foreign minister of the Ottoman under Sultán ‘Abdu’l-‘Azíz. Bahá’u’lláh wrote the Lawh-i-Fu'ád shortly after his death in 1869.[2]
- March 5: ‘Alí Páshá, grand vizier of the Ottoman Empire under Sultán ‘Abdu’l-‘Azíz, to whom Bahá’u’lláh addressed the Súriy-i-Ra'ís and Lawh-i-Ra'ís.[3]
