Colonel ‘Alí Muhammad Barafrukhtih was a Persian Bahá’í who served on the National Spiritual Assemblies of Iran and France.
Background[edit]
Barafrukhtih was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran in 1945 and served on the body throughout the 1940's and into the 1950's.[1][2] In his professional career he served in the military achieving the rank of Colonel,[3] and he also received the title of Doctor.[4]
As of 1959 Barafrukhtih had moved to France as that year he was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of France.[5] The French community was thrown into crisis in 1960 when the majority of the National Assembly accepted Mason Remey's claim to be Guardian of the Faith, contradicting the requirements of the Will and Testament of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá and statements Remey had previously signed, however Barafrukhtih remained loyal to the Covenant and rejected Remey's claims.[3] The National Spiritual Assembly of France was dissolved and reformed in May, 1960, and Barafrukhtih was re-elected to the body as vice-chairman.[6]
Barafrukhtih continued to serve on the French National Assembly into the 1960's and he attended the First International Convention in the Holy Land in 1963 and cast a vote in the first election of the Universal House of Justice as an Assembly member.[4] As of 1966 he had completed his service on the Assembly.[7]
