‘Abdu’l-Raḥím Yazdí (d. 1988) was a Persian Bahá’í who served as a National Spiritual Assembly and Auxiliary Board member in Egypt and later moved to Canada.

Background[edit]

Yazdí was born into a Bahá’í family from Yazd and his father, Hájí Muhammad Yazdi, and his grandfather both met Bahá’u’lláh.[2][3] As of 1910 his family had pioneered to Ramleh in Egypt,[4] and as of 1919 he was studying at the Syrian Protestant College, now the American University, in Beirut,[2] becoming the secretary of the Bahá’í student group by 1925.[5] In his personal life he married Dawlat Shirazi in 1929 and they had four children.[6]

At some point Yazdí was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of Egypt and Sudan serving from at least 1940,[7] and he was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of North East Africa when it succeeded the Egypt Assembly in 1956.[8] By 1960 he had been appointed as an Auxiliary Board member for Egypt and that year he had to coordinate the community alongside fellow Board member Muhammad Mustafa when the government of Egypt ordered all Bahá’í Assemblies to disband.[9]

Persecution of the Bahá’í community continued to escalate throughout the 1960's and in June, 1967, Yazdí was deported,[9] and he settled in Canada with his family.[6] In 1971 he spoke about ‘Abdu’l-Bahá, who he had met in Ramleh as a child, at the North Atlantic Oceanic Conference in Reykjavik, Iceland.[10]

In 1988 Yazdí passed away in Montreal.[1]
