Zekrollah Kazemi is a Bahá’í who served as a Continental Counselor for Africa.

Biography[edit]

Kazemi was living in Côte d'Ivoire as of the early 1970's and in 1972 he married Sharon Rickey who had pioneered to the country that year. In May 1973 the Universal House of Justice appointed him as a Continental Counselor for Northwestern Africa.[1]

In July 1974 he participated in an International Teaching and Deepening Conference in Lome, Togo,[2] and in July 1975 he spoke at an International Youth Conference in Accra, Ghana.[3] In September 1976 he spoke at a Teaching Conference in Douala, Cameroon.[4] In 1977 he attended the Benin National Convention.[5] In August 1978 he attended another International Youth Conference which was held in Yaounde, Cameroon.[6]

In 1980 the Universal House of Justice merged the Continental Boards for Africa into a single body and introduced five year terms with Kazemi being re-appointed as a Counselor for Africa.[7] In September 1980 he spoke on the topic of the destiny of Africa at an inter-regional conference in Ouagadougou, Upper Volta,[8] and in March 1981 he spoke at a public meeting held in Lome, Togo.[9] In 1983 his wife Sharon passed.[10] In 1984 he spoke at the Senegal Spring School in Dakar.[11] In 1985 he was appointed for another term as Counselor.[12] In November 1987 he represented the Faith at an African Roundtable on Religious Freedom sponsored by the World Council on Religious Freedom.[13]

In 1990 and 1995 Kazemi was appointed for additional terms as Counselor finishing his service in 2000.[14][15]
