Zahrá Bagum
Zahrá Bagum (d. October 1889), also known as Ukht Haram, was a member of the Afnán family and the sister of Khadíjih Bagum the wife of the Báb.
Background[edit]
Zahrá's father was Áqá Mírzá ‘Alí. She was raised in his house in the Bazaar Murgh quarter of Shiraz which was next to the house of Khál A'zam, the Uncle of the Báb who raised Him, and as a child she associated with the Báb.[1] In approximately 1838 she married Áqá Mírzá Zaynu'l-'Abidín who was a paternal cousin of the Báb and they had a son Áqá Mírzá Áqá, better known by the title Núri'd-Dín, who was their only child to survive infancy.[2]
When the Báb was imprisoned in Shiraz in 1846 Zahrá was among the few people who visited her sister Khadíjih disguising herself as a beggar in order to be able to visit her house and offer her support. At some point after 1855 she became a Bábí through her son and at some point after 1867 she became a Bahá’í also through her son.[2]
In 1882 Khadíjih Bagum passed away and Zahrá moved into the House of the Báb in Shiraz succeeding her sister in assuming the responsibility for taking care of the property. She passed away in October 1889 and Bahá’u’lláh instructed that the caretaker for the House of the Báb be selected from her descendants.[2]
