HotCat
Hey, do you think you could add HotCat and Cat-a-lot, for working with categories? --Dragfyre (talk) 10:07, 10 July 2017 (PDT)
Yes, will be able to in about a week. David (talk) 13:07, 10 July 2017 (PDT)
Awesome. Thanks! --Dragfyre (talk) 13:08, 10 July 2017 (PDT)
- Forgot about this. I'll work on it tonight. David (talk) 12:32, 6 August 2017 (PDT)

- WOOHOO! Dragfyre (talk) 15:58, 6 August 2017 (PDT)
- (By the way, you need to archive your talk page) Dragfyre (talk) 15:58, 6 August 2017 (PDT)
- HotCat is fine, but Cat-a-lot doesn't seem to be working, either here or on bahai.media. Any ideas? --Dragfyre (talk) 14:03, 11 August 2017 (PDT)
- One more thing, too: On Commons, there's an option to "Place categories above all other content", so that categories are the first thing you see at the top of the page. Think you could add that to bahai.media too? Dragfyre (talk) 16:48, 11 August 2017 (PDT)

Can you tell me where that option is located? User preferences or somewhere else? If it's user preferences, is it a gadget or beta feature? Will figure out the cat issue David (talk) 17:49, 11 August 2017 (PDT)
- User prefs, in the gadgets tab under "Interface: Files and categories". Dragfyre (talk) 17:50, 11 August 2017 (PDT)
- Thanks. No luck on cat-a-lot, somehow it seems specific to wikimedia commons. Can you point me to why you think bahai.media needs the translate extension? I ask because it's got a ton of dependencies and would require a bit of work to install. I don't mind, but just want to see what we'll get for it since I don't expect anyone to ever add foreign languages to bahai.media. David (talk) 18:49, 11 August 2017 (PDT)
Thumbnail problems
Can you take a look at the page Bahaikipedia:Today in History/July 22? I'm getting the following error when trying to include an image from bahai.media: Error creating thumbnail: Unable to save thumbnail to destination --Dragfyre (talk) 10:52, 17 July 2017 (PDT)
- I think this might be a space problem. I will need to increase the size of the drive. If you can, hold off on uploading any new files until this problem is fixed. I'll try and do this upgrade in a few hours. David (talk) 13:28, 17 July 2017 (PDT)
- No problem. (Sorry for breaking the website... again!) --Dragfyre (talk) 13:28, 17 July 2017 (PDT)
- Don't worry about it. I've been running things a little tight to save on costs. Anyway, the volume size was increased, and I took the opportunity to switch that drive to SSD. Not sure if that will be noticeable. David (talk) 13:46, 17 July 2017 (PDT)
Thank extension
Hey, do you know what extension we'd have to add to be able to send automatic "thanks" to other users like on Wikipedia? Dragfyre (talk) 07:35, 6 August 2017 (PDT)
Gloria Faizi
Hi David
I am the daughter-in-law of Gloria Faizi. My husband, Naysan (Gloria's son), and I were dismayed to come across the page about her on your site (bahaikipedia), where there are completely erroneous statements about my mother-in-law.
In particular, Gloria Faizi he was not a Jew and was born into a Baha'i family. The only statement that is absolutely accurate is "She wrote 'The Baha'i Faith: An Introduction'". Th other statements are questionable and obviously the opinion of an individual.
Do you have any procedures in place for checking the accuracy of the information people choose to say about others?
We wish to correct the factual error – as well as the misinformation – contained on the page as a matter of urgency and would appreciate your assistance to do so. Once we receive your response, we will give you the accurate information.
I look forward to hearing from you.

InstantCommons
User:David, any chance this extension could be installed on Bahaikipedia? I'm trying to expand some articles and there are so many great images available on Wikimedia Commons already that this seems like it'd be a great resource. If it's complicated to install or incompatible for some other reason, no big deal, just thought it was worth seeing about. Thanks for Bahaikipedia! penultimate supper (talk) 17:31, 9 October 2017 (PDT)
- It's enabled now, you should be able to add any image from Commons. Thanks for bringing that to my attention, will be a great time saver! David (talk) 20:24, 9 October 2017 (PDT)
- Thanks! It's working great, although sometimes images take five minutes to appear properly, which isn't an issue, just helpful to remember so you don't edit and re-edit trying to fix a problem that fixes itself. penultimate supper (talk) 07:39, 10 October 2017 (PDT)

Scouting Portal
Hello, I'm a new user here but very familiar with wikimarkup. I was wondering if you'd be okay if i created a category for Baha'is that there are articles for which verify that they were active in scouting of some sort, to begin to collect and create an article on the Committee on Scouting and the Unity of Mankind awards presented for scouts of the faith? Trying to work to get the project more visibility and activity. Thank you. Hooper (talk) 19:20, 18 July 2019 (PDT)

German Hands of The Cause
Hi David thanks for getting into touch with me
we have a book 8.2 running here in germany and every participant is getting some information about one hand of the Cause - so when I didnt find mine (Hyde and Clara Dunn) in German I translated the English version and uploaded it and familiarized myself with this baiahpedia contributing
Then I looked into the page of Adelbert Mühlschlegel (as he is my grandfather I knew where to find something) and now I continue as my Book 8.2 participants send me their papers
I saw that you took care for the info box for Adelbert Mühlschlegel - but is there a way we can get the words (like Death, Souse etc) in German? When I change them the information dissappears
LG Barbara
- Hi Barbara, can you email me: d@vid.gd that's going to be the easiest way to work. The labels you want to change are located here. When I get a free moment I'll help you with that. As for images, if possible please upload them here: https://bahai.media. Images upload to bahai.media can be used just like if they were uploaded on de.bahaipedia.org. The difference is that anything added to bahai.media can be used on every other project/language we run. There is also better worldwide distribution for files on bahai.media. Tech Question
Hi David, just curious, can you explain why you've shifted the inline source citations from "References" to "Notes" on the page for Richard_St._Barbe_Baker? Is this a style convention? - Territorygal (talk) 17:22, 24 January 2021 (PST)
- Just a way to separate inline citations from other kinds, a convention taken from Wikipedia. But it looks like they use References and Bibliography, you can use those labels if you prefer. See (random page) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tommy_James_(American_football) as an example. David (talk) 17:26, 24 January 2021 (PST)
- Cool, thanks! - Territorygal (talk) 17:28, 24 January 2021 (PST)
Name of place in Greenland is incorrect
Dear David,
Alláh-u-Abhá!
I'm a Greenlandic bahá'í. I've corrected the name of a Greenlandic town in the page about Palle Bischoff https://bahaipedia.org/Palle_Bischoff It also mentions another name, Govkussak, which is not a place, or even a word, neither in Greenlandic nor Danish. Greenlandic being the native language and Danish the colonial. Do you happen to know what it could be? It looks more Greenlandic but I can't figure out what it could be.
With loving Bahá'í greetings,
Martin Chemnitz Nuuk, Greenland.
- Hi Martin, thank you for your edits and your message. I found the source of the word which is Baha'i News Issue 246, here is the context:
- ...a young Bahá’í of Copenhagen, has been appointed by the Danish Government to be manager of a fishing station at Egdesminde for four months of the year. He will be in Govkussak as manager of another station for the winter months.
- Is it possible the word is a typo? I don't know enough to guess at what it might be, is there a location which sounds similar when sounded out, but is spelled differently? Based on the context it doesn't sound like this location is necessarily in Greenland, is it possible to fish anywhere there in the winter months? I think it will be hard to track down, so perhaps the article should be edited to remove the sentence, or remove just the name, eg "Greenland for four months and a different station in the winter..." The information about Sohrab Kourosh
Dear David,
A search of Media on Sohrab Kourosh showed two results in Bahaipedia. I provide the following paragraph in case you might find it proper to supplement the existing information:
Dr. Sohrab Kourosh is Vice President and Senior Environmental Scientist of an environmental consulting engineering company in Texas. He was previously on the faculty of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. His diverse educational background includes B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering, M.A. in Psychology, M.S. in Aerospace Engineering (rocket design), Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, and Juris Doctorate in Environmental Law. He has authored and published books and articles on Bahá’i subjects, papers in engineering and medical journals and has lectured internationally at scientific and Baha’i conferences. He is the author of three volume "Self Study Notes for The Kitáb-i-Íqán, The Book of Certitude" and the "Self Study Notes for the Seven Valleys of Bahá’u’lláh." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 47.187.8.174 (talk • contribs) .
- Hello, thank you for providing the information! I received a similar note recently by email that had information that was missing from Bahaipedia. However, it is unfortunately not sustainable to the project for me (or any one person) to be the intermediary to this type of information, Bahaipedia has no gatekeeper and the project's success depends on people like yourself who see a way to improve it contributing directly. To create a new page you will need an account, after that you can search for "Sohrab Kourosh" and look for a red link in the text "You may create the page "Sohrab Kourosh",...". Please note that information must be verifiable, it can only be accepted if it has first been discussed in another reliable source. Let me know if you have any problems. Virtual Cemeteries
Directories are the way things are organized on your computer. At the top in this case would be Virtual Cemeteries under Persons Clicking on that would bring up a page w/, for instance, a listing of all states which have places Baha'i are buried. Depending on the number of listings, this could have them listed by town. That in turn could have individual cemeteries. At the end would be a listing for individual Baha'is w/ a link to findagrave. The effect would be to make it easier to find the findagrave memorial.
In addition, there could be directories for Hands of the Cause, Knights of Baha'u'llah, members of the House of Justice, etc.
A virtual cemetery would primarily be an index to findagrave memorials. But it would be easier to find specific individuals as well as increasing the visibility of such memorials on-line when people are doing genealogical research. Along w/ this is the need to directly identify Baha'is w/, hopefully, some sort of documentation, if their obit does not so identify them.
this would be a major long-term project.
Don C
- Sorry to butt in, but: We do need to flesh out all of the pages for U.S. states, and this could be something to add for each of them (along with notable people who were born or resided in each state). Would you be open to that Don? Dragfyre (talk) 00:46, 27 June 2022 (PDT)
- I am willing to help get it started and try to recruit additional people to work on it. But I am also an old man.
- I think there may be a need for a non-technical set of explicit instructions on how to make modifications and additions to the site. I am still trying to figure out how to do things in wiki language.
- I suspect Dragfyre, that there needs to be links both from existing pages as you mention and also as separate set of cemetery pages. Don59405 (talk) 01:29, 27 June 2022 (PDT)
- Hi Don! To start with, I've added a section on the article for Alabama that could be used for what you're referring to. If the interest is there and other editors agree that this would be a good use of effort, we could fill in the rest of the states and even perhaps extend the same template to individual cities.
- Regarding instructions, I see what you mean and I agree, we do need to un-steepen the learning curve. For the time being, if you go to Alabama and edit the section I added—the one on monuments—you should be able to add more individuals to the list. Wiki syntax can be a bit complicated, but we do have a cheatsheet you can use to make things easier. As well, we did have an easier-to-use visual editor a while back; David, is this something we could add back if needed? Dragfyre (talk) 02:44, 27 June 2022 (PDT)
- OK, but I think there needs to be a "see also" to a virtual Alabama Baha'i Cemetery area. Naomi Snider (Yocom) McFadden has 46 people listed in her virtual cemetery for Alabama Baha'is. And put a limit on the people listed in your template. Don59405 (talk) 05:20, 27 June 2022 (PDT)
Blanca Mejia page - your question
Dear David,
I'm not sure about the December 3 date of Blanca Mejia. Where did you find that exact date of birth? Whatever details about her I could find are in this compilation in Spanish. You had asked about anything published and/or online. Here it is: https://bahai-library.com/sadeghpour_el_cuarto_acto This compilation is approved by the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Nicaragua. There are some other pictures of Blanca there.
The abstract is translated into English, and the tags include Blanca Victoria Mejia.
- Hi, the date is given on page 550 of Baha'i World Volume 16, page 550: https://file.bahai.media/c/c2/BW_Volume16.pdf David (talk) 18:54, 14 August 2022 (PDT)
Huddleston
Hi David,
I became Bahá’í at the home of John and Rouhi Huddleston in 1970. Between 1970 and 1975 John and Rouhi taught much about the Faith, and about pioneering. I left the US in 1975 and did not return.
I have tried to find John and Rouhi, and if you can help me to connect, I would appreciate it.
I am in Ukraine. I'll be at the UHJ election in April.
Regards,
Gary Reusche Kyiv, Ukraine
- I'm sorry Gary, but I don't know him. Have you tried Facebook? If that doesn't work I bet asking around in Haifa would get you two connected again. David (talk) 11:18, 19 February 2023 (PST)
Deletion request
Hi,
Please delete https://es.bahaipedia.org/index.php?title=Plantilla:Harvard_citation&redirect=no and https://es.bahaipedia.org/Plantilla:Harv. They are obsolete and are not being used, having been superseded by https://es.bahaipedia.org/Plantilla:Cita_Harvard.
Thanks
Ernobe (talk) 11:15, 17 May 2023 (PDT)
- Hi Ernobe, thank you for letting me know. I've given your account the permission necessary to delete pages. In those cases I just chose to redirect them instead (eg, if you choose to import other templates you might find they contain outdated references so a redirect can be useful). David (talk) 15:39, 17 May 2023 (PDT)
Citation template
Hi,
I recently had to change the {{cite book}}
template to {{citation}}
in order get results similar to what I was getting on es.bahaipedia.org. After reading the documentation, I think there are two not always compatible ways of making citations. One is how I've done it over there with Módulo:Citas which is equivalent to Module:Citation/CS1. The other method is with "Plantilla:Obra citada", equivalent to Template:Citation. As an experiment, would it be possible to deactivate or temporarily remove Template:Citation, Template:Citation/core and "Template:Citation/make link"? I would then try to undo {{citation}}
back to {{cite book}}
and see if it does any better.
Ernobe (talk) 14:05, 23 May 2023 (PDT)
- Hi Ernobe, unfortunately I don't understand what you're working to fix. I don't mind experimenting, and I've given your account the permission necessary to delete pages, but wouldn't switching to cite book means citation is no longer used? So removing the citation template is unnecessary? But in any case, feel free to experiment. David (talk) 14:37, 23 May 2023 (PDT)
- Also, do you want https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Reference_Tooltips or https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Popups enabled for references on es:? We have the former here, but I can add either one to es. David (talk) 14:39, 23 May 2023 (PDT)
- The differences are more profound than I thought they would be. What I'm trying to do is make the links in the notes section highlight the link they are pointing to in the references section. Tooltips shouldn't be necessary if the links themselves are informative enough. Ernobe (talk) 15:23, 23 May 2023 (PDT)
- Removing Template:Citation didn't seem to have any effect at all. I've added it and the others I deleted back in from en.wikipedia.org, as well as a few others that are useful for more enhanced notetaking (which would require adding Template:efn as well). The Module:Citation/CS1/styles.css has a "/* Highlight linked elements (such as clicked references) in blue */" line which seems to be doing what I was looking for, but for some reason doesn't work. This is way over my head. Anyway, you can revoke my permissions now, and thanks for your cooperation. Ernobe (talk) 03:46, 24 May 2023 (PDT)
I remember experimenting with the same thing actually and having trouble getting it to work consistently despite the fact that I was only modify the content of the references and all the templates were staying the same. I never did quite figure it out I think. Thanks for trying, I appreciate that you made the effort. David (talk) 09:31, 24 May 2023 (PDT)
markup needed for sfn notes documentation
Hi,
I recently added Template:Markup/doc which itself has many of the problems which Template:Markup tries to solve. If you click on "edit", at the bottom of the page it will show templates that are being used by it. A few are missing, some I added recently, and some that I added are probably not needed (Template:Var, Module:Template invocation and Template:Cite *). But it is the only proper error message that seems to be showing what is missing to solve the documentation error (the "Markup [[:Template:" followed by "Renders as" lines). We could try adding the missing ones (Template:!!, Template:Code, Template:Fake citation needed, Template:Fake heading, Template:Tl2, and Template:Xtag). Of these Template:Fake heading seems to be more directly relevant to documentation pages, but obviously there is a-lot more going on behind the scenes which the others could be dealing with. Ernobe (talk) 10:32, 8 June 2023 (PDT)
- I have no idea what else to try. It reminds me of trying to install a Linux system that is based on anything else except Debians' apt package management system. There is generally no way to determine and/or resolve dependency problems among the different packages (software components). The only way to get it right is to start from the beginning, install only what you need and works and build from there. In our case that would mean something like what is commonly referred to as reverse engineering. It "works" if one has the time and energy and has a pretty good idea of what has been installed for what and in what order. Ernobe (talk) 13:35, 8 June 2023 (PDT)
At Template:Markup/doc it says:
This:
{{markup|<nowiki>'''Bold text'''</nowiki>|'''Bold text'''}}
Produces this:
Markup | Renders as |
---|---|
'''Bold text''' |
Bold text |
That is the error. Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Markup/doc where you can see what it is supposed to be doing. The {{markup|... line is supposed to be invoking Template:Markup but it isn't. Therefore the pages that rely on such functionality to show examples of code (the markup) as part of the documentation aren't working.
- Ok, thanks. I think I know where to start, I'll work on it later. David (talk) 15:11, 8 June 2023 (PDT)
- This appears to be fixed now. The error was in Template:Format item, corrected by copying the version on en.wikipedia. David (talk) 12:15, 10 June 2023 (PDT)
- When creating Template:Format item I accidentally copied the code for Template:Var instead. Good thing you noticed. Ernobe (talk) 18:16, 10 June 2023 (PDT)

Wikidata
Hi
I've updated es:Módulo:Wikidata, in order to make the {{ficha}}
templates work. The problem is, it only went half-way and some features are missing. I had to modify the code to es:Plantilla:Ficha de religión which I'm using for the religion infoboxes at es:Fe bahá'í and es:Fe bábí in order to stop getting the unsightly error messages. As a consequence, the "Fundación" (date) and "Número de seguidores" (number of followers) items are missing. Also, I'm unable to get rid of the Wikidata links provided at the bottom of the infoboxes. I created a "Fe bahá'í" item at wikidata.org but can't add a "statement" on it linking it back here. It's not a deal breaker, and it's better than using the rudimentary and lacking "Christian denomination" infoboxes. Just thought I'd let you know in case you can find a way to fix it. Ernobe (talk) 16:36, 2 July 2023 (PDT)
- Hi Ernobe, I had the same problem when trying to copy over modules from wikipedia because they all seem to be written with wikidata in mind, which is an extension we do not currently have installed so it won't work. I could probably set up integration with wikidata (we had previously experimented with a Baha'i version but the project didn't take off) but I'm not sure how valuable it would be. I'll take a closer look at those modules and templates later. David (talk) 19:32, 2 July 2023 (PDT)
- I was able to add a "statement" to the Fe bahá'í Wikidata page, making it an "instance" of Baha'i Faith and linking it to es:Fe bahá'í. So far it doesn't appear to be doing anything, and I've run out of ideas on what other statements should be added to make the Wikidata link work. Ernobe (talk) 13:25, 4 July 2023 (PDT)
- When you say make the wikidata link work, do you mean on es.bahaipedia? It will not work there because the Wikidata extension is not installed. Sorry for not being clear on that. Are you just trying to resolve error messages, or is there some functionality of wikidata you want to use? David (talk) 14:00, 4 July 2023 (PDT)
- Just solving the error messages would be fine. If the outward connections are reduced or eliminated, it could make the Wikidata links at the bottom of the infoboxes go away. If this is made the primary goal of a Baha'i version, it probably wouldn't be that hard to do. Ernobe (talk) 15:30, 4 July 2023 (PDT)

I removed that section referencing wikidata (as I've done on the English side before), which removes the error messages but I'm not sure if it fixed any other problems you were having. Can you check? David (talk) 22:03, 5 July 2023 (PDT)
- Thanks, that did it. I think fixing the other problems involves creating a Wikidata link on D:Special:ItemByTitle (as mentioned at the bottom of the infoboxes) and I tried creating it with just a link, but it probably involves much more than that, that I'm not familiar with. India flag
Hi
I'm currently using the 1931 flag of India at es:Fe bahá'í. Please update the es:Archivo:Flag of India.svg with so I can use it instead. Ernobe (talk) 06:44, 3 July 2023 (PDT)
- Thank you, strange error. I've deleted the file (on pedia the system by default looks for files on bahai.media, and if it doesn't find anything, it then looks on Wikimedia Commons) which reverted to the version used on Commons: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_India.svg which seems to have a slighly different shade of orange, but I assume that's ok? Making Bahaipedia mobile friendly
Hi,
Recently, I received feedback from Google on making my own website mobile friendly, and I'm thinking the same could apply to Bahaipedia. I had to insert the <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"> tag in the <head> section of each html page. It makes the webpages appear well formatted on mobile devices. What should we do to add this functionality to Bahaipedia? Ernobe (talk) 08:31, 9 August 2023 (PDT)
- There are some mobile frontends available for MediaWiki but I decideded (a long time ago) the added complexity wasn't worth it and didn't end up trying to add support for them. I'll take another look at what's available now when I have time. David (talk) 15:54, 9 August 2023 (PDT)
