About the Bahá’í Faith in Umeå[edit]

Thousands of new students every year in combination with the many people from Sweden and other countries who settle down in Umeå every year to work result in new faces in the Umeå Bahá’í Community every year. The members are from Sweden, Iran, Norway, Finland, Russia, Iraq, Africa and Mauritius. The Local Spiritual Assembly of Umeå is northernmost in Sweden.

Every year in the end of May when the Bahá'í believers in Umeå remembering Bahá’u’lláh leaving this world, the sunrise in Umeå is about the same time as His decease (03:05 in Bahji house outside Akko). In 20 years we have gathered together with friends from the whole north Sweden on Mount Hamptiaern outside Umeå this very special night, and this year prayers and Bahá’u’lláh's own words were read in six languages.

The Local Spiritual Assembly in Umeå was founded 1973. Before that, there was a Bahá’í Association with about 4–8 Bahá’ís since 1963. In March 2012 there were 13 adult Bahá’í believers in Umeå and 10 children and junior youth.
