Article title[edit]
We're not Wikipedia, but I feel like we might want to consider keeping the title of this article as Tehran in the spirit of WP:COMMONNAME, i.e., "Tehran" is a common enough name that not only will it be easier for editors to type, but it will attract significantly more search volume than "Ṭihrán". Thoughts? Dragfyre (talk) 11:08, 5 July 2024 (PDT)
- As requested, here are my thoughts. On ordinary webpages it seems that search engines use the
and tags in the
section, rather than actual material within pages. I don't know how or if this can be programmatically tweaked in the Wiki system. And search engines themselves seem to be searching not only for the stated name, but for any other versions or transliterations of it. In infoboxes it is confusing because the linking_name= parameter is identical with the name that appears on the url, and is only useful when trying to distinguish it from what may appear in the name= parameter. name= can be used when something like Shiraz can't be put in the url, but is also useful for example when the article title is "Pasadena, California" but we want the name= parameter to be "Pasadena" for the Related media link. So all in all it could be a good idea to make all Related media category links (at Bahai.media, Bahai.works, etc.) use only English transliterations (Tehran instead of Ṭihrán), then change all of our pages to the same, and then get rid of the linking_name= parameter in the Related media link (and use city_name= parameter for Shiraz). I hope this helps. Ernobe (talk) 07:16, 6 July 2024 (PDT)
