Religious Calendar?[edit]
I think it would be useful to distinguish between the Calendar itself, and the use of the Calendar by the Baha'i Faith. For example, you should not find a page defining the Gregorian Calendar that lists the Christian holidays of Easter and Christmas. How the Christian faith uses that calendar and how it determines when holy days should be observed are a religious concern, not the calendar's. Even so, the calendar was developed in a Christian context.
Similarly, the Badi/Wondrous Calendar can, and should, exist as a complete calendar system - it has no religious dependencies! You might think of it as a gift by the Báb, Baha'u'llah and the Universal House of Justice to the world, and the Baha'is are simply the first to try to use it. To talk about the Baha'i Holy Days when describing the calendar confuses the issue. You'll see that in Wikipedia, the Baha'i Holy Days have been split off into a separate page.
Sorry, I see that this split has been done here! Glittle (talk) 12:22, 9 August 2017 (PDT)
- Good points. What I've done today is copy over a lot of information from the Wikipedia article on the Badi calendar, which gives the article a whole lot more context. And as you suggest above, I've split Bahá'í holy days off into a separate page. Dragfyre (talk) 12:27, 9 August 2017 (PDT)
- No problem :) I split it because I realized the article would get too big. But you're right that it also makes sense to treat the calendar and the holidays separately! If you have any other suggestions about how to improve this article or other articles about the calendar, please feel free. Right now I'm doing a lot of work on articles about chronology, so any contributions would be much appreciated. Dragfyre (talk) 12:36, 9 August 2017 (PDT)
