Sulaymáníyyih (
pronunciation) is a city and governorate (muḥáfaẓah) in Iraq, located in the mountainous northeastern region of Iraqi Kurdistan.[1] Bahá'u'lláh spent two years from 1854 to 1856 living in the region of Sulaymáníyyih. He lived life as a dervish in solitude and poverty during this time, spending some time in the mountains and some time living in the city. In time the people of the region became aware of his presence and he became renowned and beloved by the people.[2][3] The Persian poems known as the Dervish Poems were revealed during this period.[4]
