Siyyid Mihdí Afnán

Siyyid Mihdí Afnán (August 2, 1912 - May 4, 2007) was a Persian Bahá’í who was an uncle of Shoghi Effendi.
Biography[edit]
Mihdí was born in Shiraz in 1912.[1] He was the son of Siyyid Muhammad-Husayn and his second wife 'Ismat Khánum.[2] In his youth he moved to Haifa and he was raised in the household of Shoghi Effendi.[1]
Mihdí studied science and languages, particularly French, and he embarked on a career working for an airline and also worked as a professional interpreter. In later life he began working as a translator and wrote a Persian-English dictionary. At some point he married Irandought who was the daughter of the famous Bahá’í poet ‘Andalíb and they had four children, Bahrám, Darius, Maryam, and Mahvash.[1]
In 1982, after the Iranian Revolution, Mihdí's son Bahrám was imprisoned and tortured due to his religion and he was martyred in 1983.[3] Mihdí moved to the United States at some point where he settled in Lafayette, Louisiana, and he served on the Local Spiritual Assembly until shortly before his passing in 2007.[1]
