Sárih Khánum
Sárih Khánum (c. 1815 - c. 1880), addressed as Ukht and Qurratí by Bahá’u’lláh,[1] was the older full sister of Bahá’u’lláh.
Biography[edit]
Sarih was the eldest child of Khadíjih Khánum and Mírzá Buzurg,[2] and it has been speculated she may have been born in approximately 1814 or 1815.[3] In approximately 1832 she married Mírzá Mahmud who was the son of Mírzá Isma'il-i-Vazir of Yalrud and they had one son, Mírzá Ismá‘íl.[4] Mahmud had a younger sister, Ásíyih Khánum, and Mírzá Buzurg arranged for her to marry Bahá’u’lláh at Sarih's request in 1835.[5]
Sarih became a Bahá’í and Bahá’u’lláh revealed multiple Tablets for her and in her honor however her services to the Faith were limited by opposition to the religion by some in her family including her husband.[6] She passed away in Tehran in approximately 1880 and was buried outside the city and Bahá’u’lláh stated that there was as much reward in visiting her grave as there was in visiting Him in person.[7]
Family[edit]
Sarih's son, Mírzá Ismá‘íl, married his cousin Zahra Khanum, entitled Thamarih, the daughter of Hají Mírzá Riḍa-Quli and they had three children. He was buried next to Sarih after his passing in 1895.[4]
