Ruth Eyford (June 12, 1930 - January 10, 1996) was a Canadian Bahá’í who served as a pioneer at several posts alongside her husband, Glen, and served as a National Spiritual Assembly and Auxiliary Board member in Canada.
Biography[edit]
Eyford was born Ruth Monk in Nova Scotia in 1930. In her youth she studied nursing and psychiatric nursing and she went on to serve as a nurse counselor in her professional career. She became a Bahá’í in Montreal in 1956 and married Glen Eyford in 1957 and they had two children and pioneered to Iceland and India, then to several areas in Canada, before settling in St. Albert, Alberta, in 1970.[1]
Eyford served the Canadian Bahá’í community in several roles including as a travel teacher and as a member of several committees and Local Spiritual Assemblies. She was ultimately elected to the National Spiritual Assembly and served as the bodies chairman and was later appointed as an Auxiliary Board member.[2]
In 1995 Eyford was honored for her work as a nurse counselor for the Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission by the Mayor of St. Albert and a member of the Canadian Legislative Assembly. She passed away in 1996 in Canada,[3] and the Universal House of Justice conveyed the following message after her passing:
Share grief friends across Canada at loss dear Ruth Eyford. Her dedication to covenant and spirit of wholehearted devotion to interests cause illumined long years of service as overseas pioneer, teacher of faith, member and officer of national spiritual assembly and member auxiliary board. Praying fervently holy shrines progress her radiant soul all worlds God. Kindly extend heartfelt sympathy to her husband , children and members family.[4]
