Dr. Riaz Ghadimi (December 7, 1927 - June 12, 2006) was a Persian Bahá’í who served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran. He has written several scholarly works related to the Bahá’í Faith.
Background[edit]
Ghadimi was born in Ishqabad in 1927 into a Persian Bahá’í family which had moved to Russia due to persecution of the Bahá’í community of Iran. His father was Mirza Koochak-Khan. His family returned to Iran in his youth as the communist government expelled the Persian Bahá’ís of Ishqabad and they settled in Mashhad.[1]
Ghadimi completed his schooling in Mashhad then moved to Tehran to study medicine. He then completed his compulsory service in the Iranian military achieving the rank of General before retiring. He was an active member of the Bahá’í community as well and designed and facilitated a formal program to train Bahá’ís to give public talks which was published.[1]
As of 1967 Ghadimi was serving on the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran,[2] and he was still serving on the body as of 1969,[3] however he moved to Canada at some point.[1]
Ghadimi passed in Canada in 2006 and the Universal House of Justice conveyed the following message after his passing:
"We grieve at the passing of dearly loved servant of Bahá’u’llah, Riaz Ghadimi. His long years of tireless devotion to the Cause, distinguished by his membership on the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran, are remembered with appreciation and admiration. Particularly noteworthy were his outstanding contribution as an author and his dedication to the training of believers in the fundamental verities of the Faith that inspired to action hundreds of pioneers and promoters of the Cause of God. We extend our loving sympathy to the members of his family and his friends, and assure them of our fervent supplication at the Sacred Threshold for the progress of his illumined soul throughout the divine worlds."[1]
