Revelation 1:7
Revelation 1:7
“ | Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. | ” |
- King James Version
Summary[edit]
Throughout the book of Exodus,[1] clouds are used as a means whereby God spoke to the people. Exodus 16:10: "It came about as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud" and Exodus 19:9 "And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever..." Lastly Exodus 24:16 "And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud".
"Behold, he cometh with clouds" could then mean that Christ will return with the Word of God, or with the Glory of God.
And "every eye shall see him" could be stating the global nature of Christ's return, while not a simultaneous viewing of Christ, more likely, His power and reach will affect everyone, such that none can deny him.
While "and they also which pierced him" could mean that even those who would or did harm Him would recognize His Glory.
And "all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him", could mean that such will be His suffering that will cause every heart to pain.
Bahá’í View[edit]
From this summary it may be fair to make this conclusion about Return of Christ specifically in relation to Revelation 1:7.
He will return bringing with him the Glory and Word of God. This Word will reach everyone on Earth, all will feel its power and affect, even those who raise up against Him. Finally, he will be made to suffer at the hands of His enemies in such manner that all will cry and lament because of His suffering.
