Dr. Perin Olyai was an Indian Bahá’í who served as a National Spiritual Assembly member, an Auxiliary Board member, and Continental Counselor in India.
Background[edit]
Olyai was born into a Bahá’í family and her parents were Behram Boman Mehrabani and Shirin Boman. Her mother was a friend of Dorothy Baker and Olyai named a daughter Dorothy at Baker's request.[1] In her professional career she worked in medicine ultimately becoming Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Gajra Raja Medical College in Gwalior, India.[2]
As of 1969 Olyai was serving as an Auxiliary Board member and that year she attended an audience with the Vice-President of India alongside Hands of the Cause 'Alí-Akbar Furútan and Raḥmatu’lláh Muhájir.[3] In 1970 she was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of India, serving on the body instead of on the Auxiliary Board.[4] She participated in a programme to commemorate the Sixtieth Anniversary of the establishment of the Bahá’í Faith in India in 1980,[5] and she visited Sikkim to attend the Second Himalayan Bahá’í Teaching Conference alongside her mother in 1984.[6]
In 1985 Olyai was appointed to the Continental Board for Asia as a Counselor.[7] She was appointed for additional terms in 1990 and 1995,[8][9] completing her service in the role in 2000.[10] As of 2011 she had passed away.[11]
