Norwich is a city in the U.S. State of Connecticut. It is located in New London County.
History[edit]
There were some Bahá’ís living in Norwich as of 1931 who conducted their activities under the guidance of the Local Spiritual Assembly of New Haven.[1] By 1936 there was just one Bahá’í in the city, Anna L. Duffy,[2][3] who promoted and proclaimed the Faith through articles in local Norwich newspapers.[4]
In the Summer of 1939 a Norwich Bahá’í Group was established,[5] and in 1940 Dorothy Baker visited the city to speak on the Faith.[6] In 1956 a deepening class for all Bahá’ís in the State of Connecticut was held in Norwich.[7]
The National Teaching Committee made establishing a Local Spiritual Assembly in Norwich a goal by the following year in 1976,[8] and the Assembly was successfully established in 1977 although by October its status was jeapordized due to the low number of Bahá’ís living in the city.[9]
