Mirza Muhammad Husayn Munajjim-bashi
Mirza Muhammad Husayn Munajjim-bashi (d. 1920) was an early Persian Bahá’í who met with Bahá’u’lláh in Baghdad.
Biography[edit]
Munajjim-bashi was from Tafrish. In his career he was an astronomer. He was a Bábí and in the 1850's he visited Baghdad where he was able to meet with Bahá’u’lláh.[1] In his personal life he married Hajir, daughter of Mirza Hashim Tafrishi and sister of Badr-i-Jahan, a wife of Mírzá Yaḥyá, although Hajir remained a faithful Bahá’í.[2][3] His wifes brother, Mirza Farajullah Tafrishi, was the father of Maryam who married Nabíl-i-Akbar.[4][2]
After returning to Iran from Iraq Munajjim-bashi moved from Tafrish to Tehran in order to protect his children from persecution of the Bábí Faith in Tafrish.[1][5] He became a Bahá’í and in January, 1877, he was arrested when the homes of prominent Bahá’ís of Tehran were raided,[6] and imprisoned until May that year.[7]
Munajjim-bashi passed away in 1920.[1] He had at least two children who were also members of the Bahá’í community, Dr. Muhammad Khan Munajjim and Shah Jahan Khanum who married Mirza Muhammad ‘Ali Khan Mustawfi Tafrishi.[5]
