Mehrangiz Rabbání

Mehrangiz Rabbání was a sister of Shoghi Effendi. She served as her brother's secretary but was ultimately declared a Covenant-breaker.
Biography[edit]
Rabbání's father was Mírzá Hádí Shírází, a relative of the Báb, and her mother was Ḍiyá'iyyih Khánum the daughter of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá. Rabbání was a surname ‘Abdu’l-Bahá granted to Shoghi Effendi as he had requested a surname to distinguish him from his cousins who went by Afnán and his siblings also used it.[1] She was the younger sister of the two daughters in the family.[2] She briefly assisted Shoghi Effendi by serving as his secretary in 1932.[3]
At some point she married Hasan Afnán, a son of Siyyid ‘Alí Afnán and Furúghiyyih Khánum, a daughter of Bahá'u'lláh, both of whom broke the Covenant,[4] after her older sister Rúhangiz had married Hasan's brother Nayyir and her cousin, Thurayya, had married a third brother.[5] She and her husband were expelled as Covenant-breakers in 1941,[6] with Shoghi Effendi sending the following cable regarding her:
"Sister Mehrangis followed example Ruhi's sister Justice demands announce believers her expulsion."[7]
