Khalil Khavari

Dr. Khalil Akhtar Khavari is a Bahá’í who has served as an Auxiliary Board member and written books relevant to the Faith. In his professional career he is an academic in the field of psychology.

Background[edit]

Khavari is from Tehran, Iran, but moved to the United States in the 1950's where he studied at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.[1] He established a career as a family and marriage counsellor and went on to become a Professor of Psychology at the University of Wisconsin,[2] and chairman of its Peace Studies Program.[3] In 1980 he received an award for teaching excellence from the university,[4] ultimately serving on its teaching faculty from 1967 until 1995 when he retired and was awarded the rank Professor Emeritus.[5]

In addition to his professional career Khavari has also remained an active Bahá’í throughout his life. As of 1980 he was serving as an assistant to Auxiliary Board member D. Thelma Jackson,[4] and by 1982 he had been appointed as an Auxiliary Board member himself,[6] serving until 1986.[7]
