Kámrán A. Samímí (December 30, 1925 - December 27, 1981) was a Persian Bahá’í who served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran. He was martyred after refusing to recant his religion following the Revolution in Iran.

Biography[edit]

Samímí was born into a Bahá’í family in Tehran in 1925. He was an active Bahá’í in his youth and in 1941 he interrupted his high school studies to volunteer as a Bahá’í children's class teacher in Najafabad. After a period of service he returned to Tehran and completed his high school education.[1]

After completing his schooling Samímí moved to India to pursue higher education and while in India he also married. He then returned to Iran briefly before pioneering to Indonesia with his family settling in Jakarta where he taught English lessons.[2] He had been elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of Southeast Asia of of 1960,[3] and in 1963 he attended the First International Convention in the Holy Land as a member of the body casting a vote in the establishment of the Universal House of Justice.[4]

After serving in Indonesia for fifteen years the Samímí's retuned to Iran settling in Tehran and Samímí was appointed to the Bahá’í National Education Committee serving as secretary of the body.[1] In 1980 the members of the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran were abducted and presumed martyred with the community electing a second Assembly and Samímí was elected to the body. On December 13, 1981, eight members of the National Assembly including Samímí were arrested at an Assembly meeting and martyred by firing squad on December 27, 1981. Their bodies were not returned to their families.[1]
