Javidukht Khadem (1913 - July 1, 2007) was a Persian Bahá’í who served as an Auxiliary Board member for the United States for an extended period.
Biography[edit]
Khadem was born Javidukht Javid in Tehran in 1913 into a Bahá’í family. She had two brothers, Hushang and Farhang, and a sister, Samin.[1]
In 1933 Javidukht met Zikrullah Khadem who proposed after meeting her once. She was reluctant but her father encouraged her to marry and they married later the same year, going on to have five children. Zikrullah encouraged her to pursue studies and she completed a bachelor's degree in literature at the University of Tehran.[1]
The Khadem's three eldest children emigrated to the United States and in 1960 Zikrullah volunteered to serve as a Hand of the Cause of God for the Americas, having been appointed a Hand of the Cause for Asia in 1952. They settled in Champaign, Illinois, in 1960, moved to New York City in 1965, and moved to Evanston, Illinois, in 1967.[1] As of 1966 she had been appointed to the Auxiliary Board for the Americas.[2]
In 1986 Zikrullah passed away and Javidukht wrote a biography covering his life in both English and Spanish.[1] She passed away in Highland Park Hospital in Chicago after suffering a fall at the age of ninety-four.[1]
