Ruhollah Khamsi

Ruhollah Khamsi (1915 - November 1, 1994) was a Persian Bahá’í who served the Bahá’í communities of Iran and Switzerland.

Biography[edit]

Khamsi was born into a Bahá’í family in Iran in 1915 and his father, Amínu’lláh, served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran. He was raised in Tehran completing his schooling in the city and then an engineering degree at Tehran University. He then worked for a railroad organization in addition to being involved with Bahá’í youth activities and serving on Bahá’í committees. At some point he married Samin Javid and they had three children.[1]

During the Ten Year Crusade Khamsi and his family pioneered to Switzerland to fulfil a goal of the Crusade settling in Basel and he was an active member of the community. In the early 1980's he assisted the National Spiritual Assembly of Switzerland and the Swiss government in efforts to resettle Bahá’í refugees fleeing persecution from the government of Iran traveling to Pakistan to facilitate the migration of the Bahá’ís who had settled there. He was then appointed to the Swiss Bahá’í Committee for Persian Affairs working with Persian migrants to Switzerland to assist them into integrating into the Swiss community. In 1991 he was appointed as a representative of Huququ'llah for Switzerland.[1]

Throughout his life Khamsi had collected Tablets and documents relating to his family history and with Ruhullah Mehrabkhani he produced the book Khanidan-i-Sadat-i-Khams over a two year period and the book was about to be printed at the time of his passing in 1995.[1]

Khamsi was survived by his children with his son, Amin, serving on the National Spiritual Assembly of Switzerland, and his daughter, Roya Blaser, serving as an Auxiliary Board member. The Universal House of Justice conveyed the following message after his passing:

GRIEVE PASSING DEARLY LOVED STALWART SERVANT BAHÁ’U’LLÁH RUHOLLAH KHAMSI. HIS LONG RECORD DEVOTED SERVICES FAITH IN IRAN AND SWITZERLAND, HIS SELFLESS AND LOVING NATURE ARE FONDLY REMEMBERED. PRAYING HOLY SHRINES PROGRESS HIS RADIANT SOUL. CONVEY OUR LOVING SYMPATHY HIS BELOVED WIFE AND MEMBERS FAMILY.[1]
