Dr. Jalal Mills is a Bahá’í currently serving as a Continental Counselor for Australasia.
Background[edit]
Mills is the son of John Mills who was the first expatriate to become a Bahá’í in Papua New Guinea.[1] He was an active Bahá’í in his youth and spent four weeks visiting Bahá’í communities to hold deepening classes and firesides in the remote Mountain Brown region of Papua New Guinea in 1981.[2]
By 1988 Mills had become a dentist and in January that year he spoke at a children's healthcare seminar hosted by the Bahá’í Women's Committee of Papua New Guinea at Rabaul International School.[3] In the late 1980's Papua New Guinea's National Office was temporarily housed in a residence Mills owned in Port Moresby.[4]
In 2000 Mills was first appointed as a Continental Counselor for Australasia,[5] and in 2004 he spoke on the history of the Faith in Papua New Guinea at a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the religion in the country held in Madina.[6] He has been reappointed in 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2020. He is currently serving as the Chairman of the Rays of Light Foundation Board, a Bahá’í inspired NGO.[7]
