Iskandar ‘Azízí

Iskandar ‘Azízí (1920 - January 4, 1982) was a Persian Bahá’í who served on the Local Spiritual Assembly of Tehran. He was martyred following the 1979 Revolution in Iran.
Biography[edit]
‘Azízí was born into a Bahá’í family in Tehran in 1920. After completing High School he moved to Karaj where he completed a degree in Agricultural Engineering at Karaj University. He later returned to Tehran and served on the Local Spiritual Assembly of Tehran. When the Iranian Revolution began in 1979 the National Spiritual Assembly appointed him to the Committee for Communications with Government Officials and he met with officials several times to advocate for the Bahá’í community in the face of escalating persecution.[1]
On November 2, 1981, ‘Azízí was arrested at a meeting of the Tehran Assembly along with five fellow Assembly members. They were held in Evin prison until being executed on January 4, 1982, and their bodies were not returned to their families. ‘Azízí's brother, Jalál, had also been executed one week before.[1]
