House of Riḍá Big

The House of Riḍá Big is a property in Adrianople where Bahá’u’lláh resided during the period He lived in the city.
History[edit]
The House of Riḍá Big had an outer courtyard which contained a garden with trees, bushes, and flowers with the inner quarters being smaller than the open outer area.[1] Bahá’u’lláh moved His residence to the house in March 1866, leaving the House of Amru’lláh due to the intense hostility of Mírzá Yaḥyá over the previous year which had culminated in Mírzá Yaḥyá attempting to poison Him.[2]
When Bahá’u’lláh moved to the house His family and Aqa Husayn-i-Ashchi who served as the households cook accompanied Him and Bahá’u’lláh went into seclusion with Mírzá Muḥammad-Quli and Mírzá Áqá Ján being the only Bábí's outside of His immediate family permitted to visit Him.[3] In approximately March 1867 Bahá’u’lláh resumed residence in the House of Amru’lláh and ended His period of seclusion.[4]
The property has remained owned by the Bahá’í community and as of the 1990's it had been restored to the same state it was in during Bahá’u’lláh's residence.[5]
