Hideya Suzuki was a Japanese Bahá’í who served on the Continental Board of Counselors for Asia.
Background[edit]
Suzuki and his brother, Toshio,[1] became Bahá’ís in the early 1960's,[2] and as of 1966 he was serving on the National Spiritual Assembly of North East Asia.[3] In 1968 he married Ruth Walbridge with the wedding being held at the Tokyo Bahá’í Center and they then pioneered to Hokkaido.[4]
As of 1969 Suzuki had been appointed as an Auxiliary Board member,[5] and in 1976 the Universal House of Justice appointed him as a Continental Counselor for North East Asia and he was the first native Japanese Bahá’í to serve in the role.[6] In 1980 the Universal House of Justice merged the Continental Boards for Asia into a single body and introduced five year terms and Suzuki was appointed to the new body and attended its inaugural meeting in New Delhi, India, in January 1981.[7]
