Lal Harvansh Singh (October 1, 1938 - November 6, 1999) was an Indian Bahá’í who served as a National Spiritual Assembly and Auxiliary Board member.
Biography[edit]
Singh was born in Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, India. He was the Rajah of the village Malhausi and managed schools and poultry farms in the area. In 1958 he married Shanta Singh and they had five chilren.[1]
Singh became a Bahá’í in 1962. He was the first member of the Indian nobility to join the religion and after declaring he used his position to proclaim the Faith to other members of the nobility in India and Nepal.[1] When the Local Spiritual Assembly of Malhausi was established Singh served on the body, and when Rúḥíyyih Khánum visited the village in 1967 to dedicate its Bahá’í Center he hosted her.[1] He had been appointed as an Auxiliary Board member as of 1967,[2] and served in the role for eighteen years.[1]
Singh served on several Bahá’í committees for teaching and coordinating agricultural projects and he helped establish over one hundred tutorial schools across the state of Uttar Pradesh.[1] He was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of India ultimately serving on the body for seven years.[1] He passed away in Malhausi in 1999.[1]
