Hájí Ahmad Milani was an early Persian Bábí. He assisted with the recovery of the remains of the Báb allowing for them to eventually be placed in the Shrine of the Báb.
Biography[edit]
Milani established himself as a successful merchant in Milan where he owned a silk weaving factory with his brother Haji Muhammad ‘Taqi.[1] He became a member of the Shaykhí movement and promoted the teachings of Shaykh Ahmad and Siyyid Káẓim and he became a Bábí when Mullá Yúsúf-i-Ardibílí visited the city to proclaim the new religion in the 1840's.[2]
After declaring Milani met with the Báb several times between 1847 and 1850 while He was imprisoned in Máh-Kú, Chihríq, and Tabriz. After the Martyrdom of the Báb in 1850 Milani assisted with the retrieval of His remains and he concealed them in his silk factory for a time.[1] In 1852 two Bábí's acting alone attempted to assassinate the Shah of Iran resulting in a severe period of persecution of the Bábí community of Iran. That year Bábí homes in Milan were raided and eighty Bábís were taken to the basement of Milani's home where they were severely beaten by government soldiers who extorted money from them. Milani was arrested but released after being extorted for a large amount of money by the leader of the government troops.[3]
Milani passed away in the 1890's.[2] He had six sons and two daughters who adopted the surname Aḥmadpúr. His son ‘Ináyatu’lláh served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran.[4]
