A begining[edit]

The Greenacre Hotel is mentioned in the first few days of newspaper.com's collection in 1898.[1] Sarah Farmer had begun work on making it a place for the American encounter with eastern religions circa 1894 following the 1893 Parliament of the World's Religions. The first prominent religious guest was Swami Vivekananda in 1894. Sarah Farmer, first mentioned in the newspaper in 1899,[2] is known as becoming a Baha'i in 1900 during a period of great personal turmoil. She is noted as having left for Palestine by May 1900.[3] By July 1901 Baha'i Edward Kinney is noted managing the music program at Greenacre.[4]

Mírzá Abu'l-Fadl is known to have attended in 1903 and a growth of pine trees was named the "Persian Pines" because of his lectures there.

Ali Kuli Khan and his family are noted as having stayed the in the area for 1905 including Greenacre leaving on a trip in 1906.[5] The local newspaper mentions the Bab in March 1909[6] and two talks are noted at Greenacre in August by Mirza Sinore Raifle on the Baha'i Faith.[7][8] Raiffe was a translator who accompanied Abdu'l-Baha's first emissary to America circa 1900. There are two talks by Baha'is in July 1910 - Mason Remey and Mirza Raffie.[9] Raffie talks again in July 1910.[10] In Star of the West Mason Remey reports of five meetings with talks of the Baha'i Faith in August 1910 also noting Mirza Sinore Raffie present.[11]

‘Abdu’l-Bahá stayed there in 1912 and Mírzá Fadil-i-Mazindarani in 1920. In the 1913 Green Acre came into Bahá’í hands, and in 1929 it was converted into a summer school facility.
