Dr. Firaydún Mítháqíyán (b. 1941) is a Persian Baháʼí who pioneered to several countries in East Asia and served as a Counsellor.

Biography[edit]

Mítháqíyán was born in Iran and grew up in the town Qasr-i-Shirin. He moved to Tehran for his High School education in 1957 and met ‘Alí-Akbar Furútan and was inspired to pioneer moving to Laos in 1962. In 1966 he accompanied Ṭaráẓu’lláh Samandarí to Luang Prabang and Nogh-Viang during his visit to Laos and in 1967 he attended an Intercontinental Conference in New Delhi, India, where he met Abu'l-Qásim Faizi. At some point he married Giti and they went on pilgrimage in 1969 where he met Mr. Furútan and Mr. Faizi again.[1]

In June 1973 Mítháqíyán was appointed as a Continental Counsellor for South-East Asia by the Universal House of Justice,[2] and in March 1974 he attended a meeting for the Counsellors and Auxiliary Board members of South-East Asia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.[3] In 1975 he represented the Faith at a United Nations sponsored regional conference for non-governmental organizations in Bangkok, Thailand,[4] and in 1976 he attended a Hong Kong International Baháʼí Conference.[5]

In 1977 Mítháqíyán pioneered to South Korea which was outside of the Continental Zone of Southeastern Asia meaning he was no longer Counsellor.[6] He continually pioneered spending time living in Hong Kong, China, and Thailand, and from 1987 to 1992 he lived in Australia particularly areas with Indigenous communities such as Carnarvon, Onslow, Karatha, Roburn, Port Headland, Brume and Derby. In 2017 he settled in Thailand.[7]
