Firaydún Farídaní (1922 - September 8, 1980)[1] was a Persian Bahá’í who served as an Auxiliary Board member up until being martyred in the wake of the Iranian Revolution.
Background[edit]
Farídaní was born into a Bahá’í family of Zoroastrian background in Yazd in 1922. He completed an education degree and worked as a teacher in Yazd and was later appointed to an administrative position in the Ministry of Education of Iran.[2]
In 1950 Farídaní was elected to the Local Spiritual Assembly of Yazd,[2] and he was later appointed as an Auxiliary Board member. When the Local Spiritual Assembly of Yazd was arrested following the start of the Iranian Revolution in 1979 he refused to leave the city and remained publicly active in order to assist the Bahá’í community. He was arrested himself and executed along with six other Bahá’ís in 1980 and his son and son-in-law were arrested while attending his funeral.[3]
