Farhad Asdaghi (September 22, 1953 - November 19, 1984) was a Persian Bahá’í who served on the last National Spiritual Assembly of Iran. He was martyred for his beliefs.
Biography[edit]
Asdaghi was born into a Bahá’í family in Tehran in 1953. He studied at the Medical College of Tehran University in his youth and after graduating pioneered to Birjand where he was elected to the Local Spiritual Assembly and later appointed as an Auxiliary Board member. In September 1981 he was arrested for his beliefs and imprisoned for three months however when he was put on trial he was acquitted and released.[1]
Shortly after his release the membership of the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran were arrested and Asdaghi was elected to the new Assembly formed to succeed them. He got married in June 1982 and had a son on July 13, 1983, and a few hours after his son was born the families hospital room was raided by the revolutionary authorities and three days later their home was searched although he was not detained. He was arrested on June 26, 1984, and martyred on November 19, 1984.[1]
