Dr. David Rutstein is a Bahá’í currently serving as the Secretary-General of the Bahá’í International Community.
Background[edit]
Rutstein was born into a Bahá’í family to parents Carol Kelsey Rutstein and Nathan Rutstein.[1] He completed his Doctor of Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University in Rhode Island and later completed a Masters in Public Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins.
In his professional career Rutstein has worked in healthcare as a senior executive and physician. He worked as a primary care physician in Micronesia and was then appointed to several administrative positions in the United States Department of Health and Human Services including being made a Rear Admiral of the Public Health Service and Deputy Surgeon General of the United States.[2] Other positions he has held include serving as the Vice President for Medical Affairs at a private healthcare company in China and founding and directing a public health charity.[2]
In 2019 Rutstein was appointed as the Secretary-General of the Bahá’í International Community relocating to the Holy Land to serve in the position.[2]
