Claudia Stuart Coles (1863 - May 23, 1931) was an American Bahá’í who served on the National Spiritual Assembly of the British Isles.
Biography[edit]
Coles was born Claudia Stuart Smith in Charleston, South Carolina, in 1863.[1] In 1886 she married Tucker Skipwith Coles, Jr., and they had a daughter however he passed in Virginia in 1893.[2] In her youth Coles moved to Washington, D.C., where she became a Bahá’í and she was an active member of the Washington Bahá’í community. At some point her daughter moved to England where she married and had daughters.[3]
In 1920 Coles moved to London, England, to live near her daughters family.[3] Her home became a centre for Bahá’í activity often being visited by Bahá’ís visiting England from abroad. She was active in teaching the Faith in England and was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of the British Isles serving several years and often being elected secretary of the body.[4]
Coles passed away in London in 1931.[5]
