Betty Reed (c. 1922 - c. 2008) was an English Bahá’í who served as a National Spiritual Assembly member and Continental Counselor.
Background[edit]
Reed was a member of the British Bahá’í community as of the early 1950's and was elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of the British Isles. In her professional career she worked in the footwear industry and served on survey teams that toured Europe. John Long was also a member of these survey teams and Reed introduced him to the Bahá’í Faith during trips in the early 1950's.[1]
In 1970 the Universal House of Justice appointed Reed as a Continental Counselor for Europe.[2] In 1980 the Universal House of Justice introduced terms to the Boards of Counselors and Reed was appointed for a five year term on the Continental Board for Europe that year.[3]
Reed passed while living in Northern Ireland in 2008 at the age of 87. Special prayers were said at a major Bahá’í Regional Conference held in London shortly after her passing.[4]
