Bani Dugal is a Bahá’í currently serving as the official representative of the Bahá’í International Community to the United Nations.
Background[edit]
Dugal completed her higher education in India receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Delhi in 1979 and from 1979 to 1980 she assisted with the Regional Preparatory Meeting for Asia and the Pacific for the World Conference of the UN Decade for Women. She then completed a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Delhi School of Law in 1982 and from 1982 to 1988 she practiced law in India.[1]
In 1988 Dugal moved to the United States and she completed a Masters of Law in Environmental Law at Pace University in New York in 1994.[2] She was appointed by the Bahá’í International Community as an alternative representative to the United Nations in 1994 serving until 1997.[1]
In 2001 Techeste Ahderom retired as the representative of the Bahá’í International Community to the United Nations and in March 2003 Dugal was appointed as the interim principal representative of the body and she has represented the body up until the present.[3]
