Bahai9.com

From Bahaipedia
Jump to:navigation, search

Bahai9.com is a compendium of quotations and links to resources on the Bahá’í Faith. It is maintained by Brett Zamir with content placed and welcomed under the terms of the open Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license.

The site's intent is to provide a resource for those studying the Bahá’í Faith which will give all relevant authoritative quotations for a subject but in a manner that allows quick access toward finding quotations of interest. However, the site also makes provision for linking to other resources on the topic, particularly those closely derivative to the authoritative sources, such as study guides.

Topics covered[edit]

Bahai9 seeks to cover any topic for which authoritative guidance can be found. Materials are arranged by the following main categories: by subject (which is further subdivided into material, human, and spiritual topics), by protagonist, by time/sequence/priority/rank, or by type of material (in particular, the Bahá’í Writings). The main page of the site presently contains links launching into these areas.

Site policy[edit]

Unlike Bahaipedia which welcomes prose explanations, Bahai9 insists that pages be created primarily using only authoritative quotations (primarily from the Bahá’í writings but also the Qur'án, Bible, or other recognized Scriptures), set off with Lights of Guidance-style headings (e.g., see Interracial marriage) or linked, bulleted summaries such as used by the Bahá’í World Centre's Research Department in some of its memoranda and as shown here, here, or here, and with links leading back to static copies of the Writings in full context where possible. The site allows linking to other resources such as study guides on the topic.

There is a complete list of site rules on site.

Contributing[edit]

Editing is performed in a similar manner to Bahaipedia or other Mediawiki wikis. Registration is required (in order to deter spam), but once one is registered and logged in, one can click "edit" on any page besides a few locked pages (like the Main page) and then supply wiki code. There is an editing help link for those as yet unfamiliar with wiki syntax.

Collaboration and integration of Bahai9 and Bahaipedia wikis[edit]

Collaboration has begun between Bahai9.com and the Bahaipedia family of wikis such that each wiki may refer to content existing on the other wikis for the given topic (e.g., see the page for Star of the West). (There is also a browser add-on which allows one to see--while browsing the Baha'i Reference Library site--which wikis have content for a given book of the Writings, though this add-on must be manually updated with this information.)
