‘Atá’u’lláh Muqarrabí (1912 - c. 1980) was a Persian Bahá’í who served on the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran. He was abducted in the wake of the 1979 Revolution in Iran.
Background[edit]
Muqarrabí was born in the Najafabad in 1912 and he completed his schooling in the city. After graduating high school his family was forced to move to Tehran due to a period of violent persecution of Bahá’ís in the province of Isfahan with the family home being destroyed.[1]
In Tehran Muqarrabí attended Tehran Military College and completed a Civil Engineering degree and he then returned to Isfahan.[1] In his career he remained in the military and achieved the rank of General.[2] As of 1967 he had been elected to the National Spiritual Assembly of Iran and he was serving as treasurer.[3]
On August 21, 1980, Muqarrabí was abducted at a National Spiritual Assembly meeting and it has been assumed he was martyred although his body and fate has never been discovered.[1]
