Wendi Momen (b. October 21) was raised in the Worth household, a very active Bahá’í family in the Los Angeles area. Her father, Buddy Worth, ran the Buddy Worth Trio. Her mother, Carol Allen, was the drummer. The actor Robert Mitchum was her uncle. Her brother Steve is a pioneer in South Africa.
While serving at the World Centre, she met her future husband, Moojan Momen. For a time they lived in London, then in Plymouth, Devon, England; later she was in the city of Cambridge (England). At the request of the National Spiritual Assembly, the Cambridge Bahá’í community sent out home front pioneers to the surrounding areas, and the Momens set up home in Sandy, Bedfordshire, and then moved to a nearby village where they still reside.
Wendi served from 1982 to 2005 on the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of the United Kingdom, was its Treasurer from 1984 to 1990, chairman from 1990 to 2000, assistant secretary from 2000 to 2001 and treasurer from 2001 to 2005. She asked to be relieved from this work in 2005, and her wish was respected. She is widely regarded for her measured, pragmatic approach to practical problems. She works for the publisher George Ronald as an editor, a compiler and author. She is also a Justice of the Peace.
In 2014, soon after the election of the National Spiritual Assembly, a by-election was declared, and Wendi Momen was again elected to the national body. Also in June, 2014 Wendi Momen was awarded the M.B.E. on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, "in honour of her work on gender equality and empowerment of women". A small display about her appears in a public museum in Bedford.
She has two children, a son and a daughter, and two grandchildren. Her daughter also works for George Ronald.
